The Industry Report of the Year

From changes in hop acreage and harvest volume, detailed key figures on alpha acid production to worldwide beer output – the BarthHaas report is the industry report of the year.

Check out the BarthHaas Report for more in-depth figures and information on last year's harvest balance, as well as the current situation in the global economy and exclusive statistics, such as the top 40 breweries worldwide. In addition, you will gain insights into country reports of the most significant hop-growing nations.

Hop Acreage

Lower acreage – particularly in the USA and Germany: Global hop acreage fell by 5.5 percent in 2025.

Hop Acreage Graph

Hop Area under Cultivation

In 2025, global hop acreage declined by 3,055 hectares to 52,660 hectares. While the contraction in hop acreage in the USA amounted to 1,456 hectares, in Germany it was slightly smaller at 1,327 hectares.

Detailed analyses of acreage, crop volumes, and alpha production in 29 hop-growing countries can be found in the full BarthHaas Report – now available for download.

Hop Production

Higher yield per hectare, but lower total hop volume: Global crop volume declines for the third year in succession.

Hop Production Graph

Harvest Yield

The global volume of hops harvested in 2025 totaled 109,188 mt – 4,340 mt less than the year before. Although the average yield per hectare rose again after 2024, the 5.5 percent decline in acreage resulted in a 3.8 percent decrease in total crop production.

The distribution of aroma and bitter hops remained virtually unchanged year on year at 53 and 47 percent, respectively. Germany and the USA, the world's biggest hop-producing countries, together accounted for 74 percent of global hop volume.

Hop Alpha Production

The supply of alpha remains high: Since the 2019 harvest, global production of hop alpha acid has exceeded market demand.

Hop Alpha Graph

Hop Alpha Production

Global alpha supply remains high: In 2025, the volume of hop alpha harvested was 11,532 mt – 380 mt less than in the previous year. Nevertheless, the volume of alpha available was roughly 1,000 mt surplus to demand.

Germany and the USA dominated alpha production, jointly accounting for 83 percent of the global total. Global production has exceeded demand since crop year 2019.

BarthHaas Industry

Beer Output

Global beer production remains virtually stable – while hop dosage continues to decline.

Beer Output Graph

World Beer Production

Global beer production on the whole remained virtually stable at 1,896 million hectoliters. However, there were significant regional differences. While Europe, the Americas, and Asia saw declines, Africa posted gains. Despite largely stable global beer output, the trend toward lower hop dosage continues.
